✅ What’s happening
When you see:
“The subscription server response is invalid…”
SketchUp has temporarily lost authorisation from its licensing server, so it lets you keep working in one open file but blocks opening additional files (which is exactly what you’re seeing).
This often shows up when:
- Your login session hasn’t refreshed (SketchUp checks periodically)
- There’s a temporary server/authentication glitch
- The license token/cache becomes invalid
✅ Quick fix (works in most cases)
Try this first — it resolves the issue in the majority of reports:
- In SketchUp (or LayOut), go to
Help → Sign Out - Close SketchUp AND LayOut completely
- Reopen SketchUp
- Sign back in with your Trimble ID
👉 This effectively refreshes your license and restores full functionality. [forums.sketchup.com], [forums.sketchup.com]
🔁 If it still happens
Try these additional fixes:
1. Restart everything properly
- Quit SketchUp + LayOut
- Restart your computer
- Open SketchUp → sign in again
(Ensures the license process fully resets)
2. Clear browser cache (important on Mac especially)
SketchUp’s login uses your default browser:
- Clear cache/cookies
- Then sign in again
